DNS Not Propagating? Here’s the Checklist That Fixes It

Most “DNS not propagating” problems are caused by caching, incorrect nameservers, wrong record values, or TTL settings. Use this quick checklist and verify changes globally.

Fast Diagnosis (5 minutes)

Confirm you updated DNS at the correct provider (registrar vs hosting vs DNS provider).
Confirm your domain uses the nameservers you think it uses (authoritative NS).
Check the exact record type you changed (A/AAAA/CNAME/TXT/MX) and verify the value.
Compare multiple regions (country/continent filters) to confirm it’s caching, not a config error.
If you expect a specific IP/host, use expected value matching to confirm what’s live.

TTL & Cache

DNS resolvers cache records until TTL expires. If TTL is high, propagation will appear “stuck” even if authoritative DNS is correct.

Wrong Nameservers

If the domain points to different nameservers than expected, your changes are applied in the wrong DNS zone and will never propagate.

Record Conflicts

Conflicts like CNAME + A on the same host, duplicated records, or mixed apex/www records can cause inconsistent results.

Step 1: Check NS records to confirm authoritative nameservers.

Step 2: Run DNS lookup for the record type you changed.

Step 3: Run propagation check, filter by continent/country, and verify expected value.

Step 4: If still inconsistent, lower TTL ahead of future changes and wait for caches to expire.
